Music Appreciation

            SEMESTER 1 -

            This course introduces students to the elements, instrumentation, and the time periods of the Baroque and renaissance. Students will learn the significance of surroundings and time periods and how they both influenced the music of the day. The course is centered on the text The Enjoyment of Music, ISBN 978-0-393-92885-3. Students will listen to and evaluate several types of music, and will be assessed for each time period accordingly.

SEMESTER 2 -

This course is centered on the music styles of the classical, romantic and modern eras. Students will learn the significance of surroundings and time periods and how they both influenced the music of the day. The class is based around the text The Enjoyment of Music, 978-0-393-92885-3. Students will listen to and evaluate several types of music, and will be assessed for each time period accordingly.
